In Defense of Julian Assange – Kyle Schmidlin – Open Salon

stand in favor of the notion that an Australian being charged for treason in the United States is a ridiculous concept.  I stand in favor of a free and independent press that publishes the very worst of our government and corporate malfeasance rather than washing over that unpleasantness so as to not upset us.

I stand against any effort to extradite Julian Assange for his assault crime, which regardless of its truth does not seem, to me, the type of thing a nation would normally risk an international incident over.  Kudos to Ecuador for taking their courageous position in offering Assange asylum.  This is unquestionably the right thing to do.

There are doubtless many who support Assange, either publicly or at least privately.  The man is fighting back against the machine.  And he’s being severely punished for it, expectedly.  That kind of thing is applause-worthy from every corner.
